Galway Girl video

Ed Sheeran came to Galway city in April last year to shoot the video for his single 'Galway Girl'. Scenes were shot in in O'Connell's Bar on Eyre Square where Ed Sheeran encounters Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan dancing on a table and sipping a pint of Guinness. He also bumps into Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan and TV and radio presenter Hector Ó hEochagáin in the men's toilets!! before hitting the dancefloor in the huge beer garden of O'Connell's. They race off down the winding pedestrian streets of Galway and come across a troupe of Irish dancers from the Hession School of dancing who had posted an audition video online in response to Ed Sheeran's call out for Irish dancers. They gained over three million views which obviously helped them secure their role. The jam packed video also includes a throwback to Ed Sheeran's teenage busking days outside the Treasure Chest shop and a cameo from Irish TV hit 'Love/Hate' stars Peter Coonan and Laurence Kinlan – Fran and Elmo. O'Connor's Pub in Salthill was inundated with crowds of fans on the night all hoping to catch a glimpse of Ed Sheeran and he kindly popped out to wave to everyone and thank them for their support.

Ed Sheeran's Connection to Galway

Ed Sheeran has a deep affinity with County Galway with family connections in the area and photographs of him busking have appeared since he shot to fame. He has also visited the City of the Tribes and surrounding county when attending a family wedding in 2016 and we live in hope that he might consider Galway for his own wedding as he just announced his engagement to Cheery Seaborn.
